Service or technology in this application

Ovarian repositioning for one or both ovaries as part of fertility preservation procedure prior to radiotherapy when the field and dose of radiotherapy has a high chance of causing infertility.

Medical condition this application addresses

The proposed medical service is relevant to female patients requiring fertility preservation prior to the start of gonadotoxic radiotherapy treatment with the intention of preserving a patient’s ovarian function.

Medical conditions requiring this service would be patients who have been diagnosed with (i) cancer, or (ii) non-malignant conditions requiring treatment with gonadotoxic radiotherapy.

(i) Cancer is a range of diseases where there is an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells throughout the body. These abnormal cells have the ability to migrate from the original site and spread to distant sites of the body.

(ii)Other non-malignant conditions may include but are not limited to:

  • gastrointestinal diseases
  • rheumatologic
  • inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs)
  • rheumatologic disorders
  • non-malignant haematologic conditions
  • autoimmune/vasculitis/glomerular disorders
  • gynaecologic conditions
  • metabolic diseases
