Apply to MSAC

Find out about each step of the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) application process – from what you need to know before you apply to getting an MSAC outcome.

Before you apply

Find out who can apply, what services and technologies are suitable for the MSAC process, what the assessment pathways are, how long it takes to get an outcome, and how to request a pre-application meeting.

Key dates for applicants

The deadlines you need to meet for your application to be considered at the next PICO Advisory Subcommittee (PASC), Evaluation Subcommittee (ESC) or MSAC meeting.

Lodge an application form

To apply to MSAC, you will first need to complete and lodge an online application form in the Health Products Portal. The pre-assessment phase will start after the next lodgement deadline.

Pre-assessment phase

This phase has 3 stages – suitability, PICO confirmation development and PASC consideration. If your application is found suitable in the first stage, it will be given an assessment pathway. Applications on the expedited or direct pathway will bypass the second and third stages.

Assessment report development

All applications that have been found suitable need either an applicant-developed assessment report (ADAR) or a department-contracted assessment report (DCAR). The report must be lodged before the assessment phase can begin.

Assessment phase

The assessment phase has 2 stages – ESC consideration and MSAC consideration. You will receive an outcome after we have considered your application at an MSAC meeting. Applications on the direct pathway bypass ESC consideration.
