Pre-assessment

The pre-assessment phase of the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) process has 3 stages. Applications on the expedited or direct pathway bypass PICO confirmation development and PICO Advisory Subcommittee (PASC) consideration.

  • Suitability

    This stage ensures your application is suitable for the MSAC process and includes the assessment pathway decision. All new applications go through this stage. 
  • PICO confirmation development

    The PICO (population, intervention, comparator, outcome) is a key part of our health technology assessment framework. In this stage, a health technology assessment group drafts a PICO confirmation document for your application. 
  • PASC consideration

    In this stage, PASC considers the accuracy of the PICO confirmation at a PASC meeting. After the meeting, the HTA group will update the PICO confirmation as needed before PASC ratifies it.
