Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the heart to detect myocardial tissue using both non-contrast and contrast-enhanced techniques. The images can be used to detect myocardial inflammation, scars and/or necrosis.

Myocarditis is an inflammatory condition of the heart muscle. Myocarditis may be triggered by infection and autoimmune conditions, which includes drug reactions.

Symptoms of myocarditis can include chest pain, shortness of breath, and swelling on the legs and ankles. Symptoms can present like those of a heart attack or heart failure.
