How the structure is determined
The federal health minister decides the size and composition of MSAC. We may set up subcommittees and working groups in line with our terms of reference.
Current structure
To find out about our role and functions, see the:

Related committees and groups
We may liaise with other committees and groups about applications for public funding. These include the:
- Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC)
PBAC assesses medicines and vaccines for the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and vaccines for the National Immunisation Program.
- Medical Devices and Human Tissue Advisory Committee (MDHTAC)
This committee provides recommendations and advice on the listing of products on the Prescribed List.
- Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI)
ATAGI provides advice on National Immunisation Program vaccines and submitting vaccines to PBAC.
- Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) Review Advisory Committee (MRAC)
MRAC provides advice on publicly funded services listed on the MBS.
- Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA)
TGA assesses new health technologies for approval to sell in the Australian market.
- National Blood Authority (NBA)
The NBA assesses and provides advice on new products seeking funding under the national blood arrangements.
We also liaise with the state and territory governments about highly specialised therapy applications. Funding for these therapies is available under the National Health Reform Agreement (signed by all Australian governments).
