What you need to know
PICO confirmations are only for applications on the standard pathway.
Our secretariat will:
- contract an independent HTA group to draft a PICO confirmation for your application
- provide the HTA group with your completed application form.
Find out about the process to choose an HTA group.
The HTA group must draft the PICO confirmation:
- with reference to the PICO in your application form
- in consultation with you
- using the PICO confirmation template
- in line with the MSAC guidelines for preparing assessments.
A PICO confirmation is a document that:
- considers the PICO in your application
- helps to decide the most suitable place for your service or technology in clinical practice
- suggests the type of economic evaluation that should be used for the assessment report, based on the clinical claims and available evidence in the PICO
- considers any consultation input on the application.
What you need to do
1. Attend a teleconference with the HTA group
Soon after the HTA group is chosen, your application manager will invite you to a video conference with:
- the HTA group
- our secretariat, including an HTA or medical adviser
- officers from the relevant policy area in the department.
This meeting is to:
- discuss the PICO and the HTA group's proposed approach
- address any questions or issues the HTA group has identified so far.
Before the meeting, your application manager will provide you with the agenda and any questions or issues the HTA group has identified.
2. Respond to any queries about your application
Your application manager will contact you if the HTA group needs more information. Provide information as requested.
Next steps
Once the PICO confirmation is complete:
- the HTA group will send it to our secretariat
- our secretariat will check it and then send it to you.
In the next step, you will respond to the PICO confirmation in your pre-PASC response.
