ESC considers assessment report (ESC meeting)

In this step, our Evaluation Subcommittee (ESC) considers the assessment report for your application. ESC will provide a written report for us to consider when we appraise your application. Applications on the direct pathway bypass this step.

ESC meetings usually take place over 2 days.

What you need to know

In this step, ESC considers a range of documents, including:

This consideration occurs at an ESC meeting. Applications on the direct pathway bypass this step.

  • The attendees at the ESC meeting are:

    • the ESC members
    • any experts invited by ESC
    • the HTA groups that developed the DCAR or commentary
    • officers from the Department of Health and Aged Care, including:
  • If your application is integrated codependent:

    • our ESC will have a joint meeting with the Economics Sub Committee of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC)
    • the ESC report will be a joint one by the above subcommittees.

    We and PBAC will consider the joint report when we appraise your application.

ESC report

After the meeting, ESC provides us with a written ESC report that:

  • advises on the quality, validity and relevance of the evidence in the assessment report
  • identifies any issues we should consider in the next stage.

The ESC report will not be available to the public.
