What you need to know
In this step, ESC considers a range of documents, including:
- the ratified PICO confirmation (if applicable)
- the assessment report for your application – an applicant-developed assessment report (ADAR) or department-contracted assessment report (DCAR)
- the commentary on your ADAR (if applicable)
- your pre-ESC response – this is your commentary response or DCAR response
- the DCAR rejoinder (if applicable)
- any consultation input received to date on your application.
This consideration occurs at an ESC meeting. Applications on the direct pathway bypass this step.
-
The attendees at the ESC meeting are:
- the ESC members
- any experts invited by ESC
- the HTA groups that developed the DCAR or commentary
- officers from the Department of Health and Aged Care, including:
- officers from the relevant policy area
- our secretariat, who organise and facilitate the meeting.
-
If your application is integrated codependent:
- our ESC will have a joint meeting with the Economics Sub Committee of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC)
- the ESC report will be a joint one by the above subcommittees.
We and PBAC will consider the joint report when we appraise your application.
ESC report
After the meeting, ESC provides us with a written ESC report that:
- advises on the quality, validity and relevance of the evidence in the assessment report
- identifies any issues we should consider in the next stage.
The ESC report will not be available to the public.
What you need to do
You do not need to do anything in this step.
